Where is the Island of Dreams of Isla Mujeres, that is, The Island of Women?

The island of Isla Mujeres is located northeast of Cancun, Riviera Maya, Mexico and is surrounded by the crystal clear turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. See the impressive sunrise at the southern end of the island, being the easternmost point of Mexico.

Isla Mujeres is located within the state of Quintana Roo and is located in the eastern part of the Yucatan Peninsula. Its geographical coordinates are 21 12` 0″ North, 86 43` 0″ West and it has flat terrain.

Island is approximately 5 miles long and half a mile wide at its widest point. On the east side of the island is the Caribbean Sea with strong waves and a rocky coast, and on the west is the Cancun skyline. Downtown and Calle Hidalgo are located to the north of the Island, where many shops and restaurants are located. At the northern end of the island is the famous white sand beach of Playa de Norte.

The weather is consistent throughout the year with an average temperature of 80 degrees and 60% humidity, which is just PERFECT!

There is an approximate population of 14,000 inhabitants, the majority living in the northeast corner of the island. The main industry of the island in the past was fishing, but now it is tourism.

Isla is subdivided into nine different districts, all with their own distinctive character, these being North Beach, Downtown, Caribbean, Waterfront, Colonias, South End, Caribe, Garrafon, South End and Sac Bajo.

Isla Mujeres preferred transportation is either a moped, golf cart (great fun) and for the less adventurous, taxis. The locals are friendly with a laid back and easy going lifestyle.
