What’s the one magic move in your golf swing that you absolutely need to get right?

There are probably four (4) things in a golf swing that you could call magic. They are magical because when done correctly and at the right time, the whole thing reacts as if it were a magic spell as yet unknown. As if there was some external control over the swing.

The ball pops off the clubhead and you feel like you didn’t do much. It is effortless. And it’s almost anticlimactic in the sense that you’re usually used to spending huge amounts of energy to make a really bad shot. Right?

However, if the truth were known, he would admit that he has never really felt that. And if so, you have no idea in the world what you did to deserve that once-in-a-lifetime feeling.

You may never get asked the question, so you’re not in danger of having to make up a story that will make you feel bad later on.

But I just asked the question and you’re lucky we’re not in the same room so you don’t have to answer. Just answer yourself. And the answer is?

Already knew.

The other day I was playing with some friends at our club.

The wind was blowing at 30 MPH. A tough day to play. The kind of day where balance and swing speed were very important.

I faced a headwind on a par four, a slight dog leg to the right. As I weighed the conditions in my mind, I decided to test the “when there’s a breeze, swing easy” theory.

At the same time, I thought I’d take a little slice shot and fade it around the corner. That would give me a wedge on the green. Good idea!

Here’s the problem, I had to hit far enough or I would have been blocked on the next hit.

I can hit the slice well, but it does take some distance off the shot and it tends to go a little higher than my normal trajectory. And then the wind would really have an effect.

I went slightly wide and figured swinging along my foot line would give me a good enough fade to do the trick. But that damn wind.

About halfway to impact, I committed a carnal golf sin. That’s right, I changed my mind.

I decided that to go around that corner I would have hit everything. blow it up Shake the snot out of him. Get to it.

So I did it!

I gave him the most horrible shot. I spun as hard as a guy can, and man, did I ever take a slice shot? More like a boomerang. Amazing!

Incredibly bad is what I mean.

This is a shot I would almost never hit. But the point of this is to tell you that when you do things wrong with the golf swing, bad things happen with the golf ball.

And it doesn’t matter who you are or what your disability is. The ball just doesn’t care! And your golf swing gives you what you give it. No doubt about that.

So you see that a good player who ignores the basics gets poor results. A bad player who ignores the basics gets bad results.

They are the same!

Now, what is that magical first move on your downswing? Let’s find out!

First I want to make sure you understand that I’m making a huge assumption here. And you are already in a great position on your backswing. If it isn’t, you can also shut down your computer now.

It won’t do any good to get it wrong the first part and then be in constant correction and partial confusion the rest of the way to the golf ball.

It’s pretty easy to do, I mean backswing. So that’s the first part.

Oh yeah and this. Once again, let me remind everyone that there are no good players with bad grips. By now you know what a good grip is, so now would be a good time to take a “good grip.”

Drumroll! The first magical move on your downswing is not to rotate your hips.

Sorry to ruin a long held theory. Rotating the hips is a formula for a reverse weight shift. Do not do this.

The first magic move on your downswing consists of three elements.

Are here:

1. The first movement is a strike from the hips laterally towards the target while keeping the head in the same relative configuration position. It is very important to understand why these two things are so vital.

Lateral protrusion of the hips shifts the weight to the front leg, this eliminates reverse weight shift and “weightless shift” is probably not possible to keep the head in its original position, but the idea is not to move the head to the objective. That means you keep your head behind the ball. This is crucial for body mechanics.

As you kick your hips to the side and keep your head behind the ball, this movement will shake your shoulders so that you are now in a position where your right shoulder is lower than your left and you are in a position of power to hit. from inside the ball. the target line.

From here you can’t hit from above. nice right?

Now for you skeptics. You’ll notice I haven’t said a word about turning your hips. You may have read that you need to do that. Rotate your hips.

Bury the thought.

Here’s proof that you’ll turn your hips whether you want to or not. And then you don’t need to worry about it.

Get into a prepared position. You don’t need a club. Roll onto your right side as if you were on your backswing.

Now kick your hips sideways, kick them as far as you can (slowly) keeping your head in their relative position. Keep crashing.

As you continue to hit your hips, you’ll soon see that you physically can’t hit any more and guess what happens.

Your hips rotate. There you go! And now you’ve made me say it. Rotate your hips. But you don’t have to do anything, it’s automatic.

Try it!

2. The second movement is a drop of the right elbow to the right side while maintaining the angle between the shaft of the club and the right arm. As well as the angle between your right wrist and your right forearm.

That sounds like a lot to remember.

Here is some good news. You don’t have to remember it. You just have to know.

When you hit your hips laterally and were in a good backswing position, your arms
automatically falls into the correct position on your right hip. The only thing you can do to make sure of this is another drum roll, nothing.

That’s right, don’t do anything.

And I don’t want to say anything. Your hands and arms should accompany you on the journey. Don’t try to make them do anything. Turn them into stone, wood, metal or whatever you want. But don’t make them do anything.

This is a great example of getting out of your own way. Let your arms follow your shoulders as you kick your hips to the side and you’ll be headed to the right spot. Pretty cool stuff, right?

3. Now just hit the ball. You will be in a perfect position to attack the golf ball from the inside with power and precision.

Now let’s try this out a bit. Grab a club, get into your backswing position. Slowly kick your hips to the side and allow your hands and arms to go where they want.

Did they fall almost to your right hip? they should have. Do this several times until you get the feeling of a bump and drop. It will not be easy. But if you do this you will hit the ball as if by magic.

Who else does this. Good for one, Tiger Woods. You can see proof of that if you watch his swing and take note of his position as he hits his hips sideways.

His arms drop and most notably he squats down. This is seen by looking at his knees. She will see that they are both bent and leaning towards the target. And they are well separated. Kind of a bow-legged look.

His head is still where it was, but you will occasionally see him crouch down so low that his head drops down or becomes shorter. This is a small problem that we don’t have to worry about.

It’s because Tiger Woods develops tremendous torque in his golf swing. Something we probably couldn’t achieve.

But what we can do is achieve the exact positions of Tiger Woods just by doing the simple things that are correct in our golf swings.

Is magic? Of course it is. It’s as magical as you want to make it. You will hit the ball as if by magic. That’s close enough, right?

So try this. Trust me it works. It’s another advanced lesson, but so what? You’ll have to know how to do it one day if you keep playing golf.

Why not find out now?

Bail. Don’t listen to your friends at the shooting range. They’ve listened to someone else, they’ve listened to someone else, they’ve listened to someone else, and so on.

This first move down is absolutely correct and every good player does it. For what it should.

Go find them! Let me know how you do it.
