Common bras in everyday life

You may know or have heard of industrial fasteners, whether they are plastic fasteners or metal fasteners used in manufacturing. But have you thought about the commonly recognized bras of everyday life? Common everyday bras are an integral part of modern life. Consider the everyday bras around us and imagine what life would be like without them; not the lives of others, but your daily life.

Wherever you are now, you will find that the most recognizable components are literally all around you; they hold the whole place together. From window or door glass, frames and curtains to plugs and rock plates, fasteners are everywhere.

Take a look at these fun facts and rethink the relevance of bras:

  • 52 screws on an iPhone 5

  • 156 bras on an average laptop

  • More than 146,000 bolts are installed in a car

  • In a 1,200 square foot home (three bedrooms and one and a half baths) there is an approximate need for 12,000 nails.

  • Contrary to popular myth, Velcro was not developed by the military and was discarded because the tearing noise was too loud. Rather, Velcro was developed in 1995 by Swiss mountaineer George de Mestra, who was fascinated by the way burrs became so firmly attached to the legs of his pants and to his dog, during a hiking trip.

  • Before children could use Velcro to ‘tie’ their shoes, they had to use actual shoelaces. The laces we know today, those laces that go through the eyelets of our shoes, have existed since the 12th century.

  • The screw actually predates the screwdriver by over 1700 years! The first screws are believed to have been used in the 1st century, but what we know as the modern hand screwdriver wasn’t invented until 1755. So what did people use to drive the screw before there was a screwdriver? Maybe they used his car keys.

The average American spends about 80% of his time indoors, and if you are an American, you spend an average of fifteen hours a week in your car. More than 70% of us (ages 18 and older) own smartphones, laptops, or computers at home, and we use them more and more every day. This means that we are literally in contact with buttons, nuts and bolts 100% of the time. Whether you’re indoors, in the car, using technology, or taking a walk outside, you’re surrounded by bras and the benefits of working well and lasting.
