Touring tires vs. all-season tires: what are the differences?

Whenever you start looking for new tires for your particular vehicle, you’ll quickly notice which ones are classified as touring tires and which ones are all-season tires. So what is the difference between the two? Is one better than the other? Here’s a look at the answers to these and some other questions you may have.

passenger tires

It was only a few years ago that tire manufacturers released this style. They are not the same as their all-season counterparts. Instead, they have been developed to provide a higher level of comfort and performance than a regular radial.

They generally offer much better high-speed handling and a smoother ride. As a side note, they may not be classified as performance tires, but they do provide much better traction in the rain or in winter weather conditions.

You’ll find passenger tires on many of their luxury cars, minivans, and SUVs. If you drive a lot on the highway, this may be the best solution. Although they are a little more expensive, they have excellent wear resistance and most have warranties of 60,000 to 80,000 miles.

all season tires

This style of tire has been around for many years. They have a unique “all-weather” tread design that gives you the best in handling and ride all year round, regardless of weather conditions. If you live in areas that see a lot of rain, snow, and ice, then this might be your best option.

The tread on an all-season radial is designed with more grooves to push water out in the rain or on sleet-covered roads, while still rolling well on dry pavement.

Although not built for performance cornering and driving style, these tires are a favorite of most drivers.

Which tire is better?

Honestly, each one has its own unique characteristics and market. I can’t say that one is really better than the other under certain conditions. It all comes down to where you live, what kind of vehicle you have, and how you drive it.

If you live in a constantly changing climate, the all-season model is for you. If you’re looking for more comfort and performance on the road, the Touring model is a great option.
