Thanksgiving centerpiece! How to make a fresh flower arrangement

Centerpieces are in high demand during the Thanksgiving holidays. Any centerpiece will add to your Thanksgiving dinner table. A centerpiece made with fresh flowers is sure to delight all your Thanksgiving visitors. It can also make a great gift for the host or hostess of your Thanksgiving dinner. A wide variety of Thanksgiving centerpieces can be ordered online, or you can create your own. These are the basic instructions you’ll need to make your own centerpiece.

Supplies needed include a plastic centerpiece tray, floral foam, two taper candles, two candle cups, wooden dowels with wire, small pumpkin picks (or two small pumpkins that can be attached with the wood) and pineapples. These supplies can be found at almost any flower and craft store or online. The foliage you will need includes; seedless eucalyptus, cascarilla, nandina, galax and dry oak leaves. The flowers are red and yellow roses, yellow and red roses, and orange and red chrysanthemums. For this design, you will need about six roses total, 3 stems of spray roses and three stems of cushion chrysanthemums. You can also use St. John’s Wort berries. While these are the suggested flowers for this design, there are many other options available.

You will first need to cut the floral foam to fit the centerpiece tray. Next, you will need to dip it in floral foam. After placing the wet floral foam and before you begin adding the foliage to the design, insert the candle cups into the middle of the floral foam and place the candles inside. Now add the foliage. You must cover all of the floral foam before you begin to place the flowers and accessories. Start with the bottom oak leaves, then the seedless eucalyptus, longer pieces of rind, and then the galax leaves. You will want to cut the small branches off the stems so that they are the right size for the centerpiece. Don’t be afraid to let the design get a little big.

Once the foliage is in place, you can start adding the flowers. There are several different ways to arrange the flowers. Once is to spread similar flowers evenly around the design. Another way is to group similar flowers together. I suggest a bit of both. You can do the same with the different colors of the flowers. Now you can start adding the pineapples and St. John’s Wort berries. In addition to St. John’s Wort berries, the taller pieces of seedless eucalyptus are excellent for filling in the gaps between the flowers, if any. By following these basic steps, you’ll have a beautiful Thanksgiving centerpiece in no time.
