Nadal is once again the best tennis player

Rafael Nadal regained his No. 1 position in a fifth French Open tournament. Rafael Nadal defeats Robin Soderling in straight sets 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 played on his favorite clay court at Roland Garros in Paris here on Sunday.

And with this victory he becomes the number 1 male tennis player followed by Roger Federer who loses his number one ranking. Last year he was the French Open champion, but this year he cannot reach the French Open final and was beaten by Soderling in the French Open quarterfinals.

Nadal, 24 years old, prior to this, was a 4-time champion in the consecutive year from 2005 to 2008. In the year 2009 he was defeated by Robin Soderling in the fourth round because he was worried about the pain in his knees.

If Nadal had lost the game, Federer would have stayed on top and equaled Pete Sampras’ world record for staying on top in 286 weeks.

Although Soderling was beaten these two years in a row, he still converted to win position number 6, the highest ranking of his operators.
