Jasmine Guy: An American Legend

A few nights ago, I was watching TV and came across a broadcast of “Harlem Nights” on a local TV station. Amused and with a strong insomnia, I sat down and watched him.

Even though it was one of my personal top ten movies of all time, it had been at least 5 years since I last saw it. I found myself on the verge of tears during certain scenes, laughing so hard in one case that I had to pause. This movie was amazing, there were so many legendary actors in it, it was like a who’s who of Hollywood. Red Foxx, Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Della Reese, Danny Aiello, and last but not least, one of my greatest childhood crushes: Jasmine Guy.

To say that Jasmine Guy was a star is an understatement, the woman is a goddess created by Adonis himself and armed with the beauty of the Sistine Chapel. Her charisma, her poise and her screen presence made her the star of a TV show called “A Different World.” When she wore that southern drawl, like Whitley Gilbert, and danced around the room in one of her pretty skirts, most men in America forget reality, at least for that moment. I recently had the pleasure of meeting her, the strange thing is that it happened 3 days after seeing the movie. She is even more beautiful in person, and her personality is amazing.

Now, when I watch “Harlem Nights,” I can bask in the glow of knowing that I met one of the most beautiful women in the world. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind if she buried my pants in the yard so she couldn’t get out of the house.
