Mastiffs are territorial dogs in some cases. However, if your mastiff is like mine, he doesn’t display this behavior until someone invades the territory he wants to protect. I know that if you don’t show them the area they’re allowed in, they’ll want to consider the whole place theirs to protect, which might mean going into the neighbor’s yard or into strangers’ yards to protect them too, which can be a good thing. or bad depending if they like the neighbors or not! I know one thing you’ll want to do is try to teach them the boundaries of the yard so they don’t wander outside of it when you’re walking them or even off-leash training.

The method that I have found works best for teaching my Mastiff the boundaries of the yard is to make sure I walk him around the yard several times a day. I know this may seem difficult to do because you will have to walk them around your yard several times a day, which can be a bit difficult for some people, but they will learn the boundaries of the yard that way.

I know this method worked for my pup and now he stays within my yard limits without venturing out on the neighbors. The only time he passed through the yard was when he was chasing a deer he found in his yard.
