How many dance agents does a dancer need?

If you’re in the dance industry, you probably know how helpful having a dance agent can be. However, how many dance agents are enough?

Well, if you can, it makes sense to get into as many non-exclusive dance agencies as you can. A non-exclusive dance agency means that you can be part of their agency and you will not be tied to them, which means that you can also be with other dance agencies and agents.

With exclusive dance agencies, you may want to do a little more research to see which one is right for you. No agency can guarantee you work (if they are legitimate), but some can get you a better, higher quality job than others.

Things to consider with exclusive dance agencies include what types of dance styles they get work for. If you are a jazz dancer, then it makes sense to be with an agency that frequently provides jazz dancers for clients. You can also consider who your choreographers are, how many dancers are in your books, even who the other dancers are.

It is also important to take into account the personal level. If you know the people running the agency or agent, they are much more likely to think of you when it comes to jobs. If a talent from the agency spotted you, they are probably very interested in you and will promote you.

Knowing the agent beforehand is not everything, of course. You can build a relationship with them. If you do dance jobs that are sent to you by an agency, that’s good for the agents because they get paid a commission for every job they send you! And you can bet that if you’re regularly successful at auditions for high-paying jobs, they’ll keep sending you on more auditions.

Now it goes to non-exclusive dance agencies; Well, you can be with as many as you want. However, as with all agencies, it pays to do some research. Look for agencies that do the type of work you are looking for and find out where they are located.

If you’re looking for work in TV and music videos but auditioning for an agency that specializes in plays or cruises, you’re wasting your time going to your agency’s audition.

So go find the agencies you want to be with and once you’re ready, audition for them and expect a lot of work (hopefully)!
