Man needs a certain set of basic necessities to survive and some of these essentials include water, air, shelter, and clothing. And the reason they are basic necessities is that they are items that we continually need year after year, until we die.

However, for most people, their preconception is that all of these basic needs are of equal importance; well, they are wrong. Many people even confuse other things with needs, when in fact they are not necessary at all; some of them even lead to poor lifestyles.

What is a healthy detox?

Basically, it is the occurrence where your body cleanses itself of dangerous toxins and waste products, leading to better overall health and wellness. You see, normally the body has ways of getting rid of these waste products, through the liver, whose key role (among many others) is to prevent all these toxins from entering the bloodstream.

But the liver can only accommodate a limited amount, so when it’s taken for granted, it can end up malfunctioning or even stop working altogether. When you lead an unhealthy lifestyle and keep eating the wrong kinds of foods, it can cause your liver to malfunction. And this is exactly why you need a regular healthy detox.

  • Be generous with your nutritional supplements: While it’s not a strict requirement to take nutritional supplements, taking a few a day will go a long way in helping your detox program. Keep in mind, however, that this doesn’t mean you should completely ditch your fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Stop smoking or drinking as they are harmful to your health; It’s understandable that it’s hard to quit cold turkey, but at least keep your use in moderation and, if possible, try to stop altogether.
  • Rest and get enough sleep. One cannot stress enough how important this is. Rest is when your body rejuvenates and recharges so you can draw strength from it to get through the day.
  • Get regular exercise – Participate in some kind of physical sport or activity that you like to do to make exercise more fun. This not only burns calories, but also strengthens the lungs and heart.
  • Go for water therapy – Water is one of the basic necessities of life. Complete the required 6-8 glasses of water per day. You can also try other beverages like fresh juices and teas as an occasional substitute.
  • Maintain a healthy diet – Clearly, one of the most important things you need to do is monitor and control your diet. Stay away from unhealthy foods and learn to love fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds, and grains. Try to eat only 4-6 small meals a day to facilitate good digestion and metabolism. If you really must eat something unhealthy, at least try to lessen the guilt by steaming, grilling, or baking your next dish instead of frying it.
  • Keep a positive mindset: Nothing beats the power of a positive mindset. Knowing your ultimate goal and staying focused and motivated to achieve it will make a world of difference.
