Acer AOD150 Netbook – Could This Be A New Addition To Your Christmas Wish List?

Surprisingly, I bought the Acer AOD150, and have been a loyal Mac user for a long time! That alone should give you an idea of what I think of this sleek and relatively new member of the netbook community. This minicomputer really excels in 4 areas.

1) Quality. Just because it’s available at Walmart, don’t think for a minute that it’s cheap. You are sure to be impressed with the build, feel, and performance of this well-made unit. I don’t think there is an area that needs improvement. Although a backlit keyboard would be nice!

2) Performance. You’d better read carefully, because you won’t often find me praying on a Windows machine, especially when running on an atom N270. Well, I’m definitely praying the AOD150-1920.

First, let me go over what you’ll get right out of the box. The Acer AOD150 netbook is pretty fast, booting up is super easy, and I’m going to be using a fresh Windows machine without reinstalling the OS.

I downloaded AVG antivirus for free and I’m running this baby. Video playback is pretty impressive. The 5800 amp, 59 watt rated battery is really appreciated.

3) Design. The keyboard is perfectly fine. It could probably be designed a bit better, but I really can’t complain. For God’s sake, it’s a $300 machine!

I tend to use the screen on the lowest setting, and the LED is great, the resolution is just right. The size and weight seem fine, although it would be nice if it was a little wider. The key layout is very well thought out and the functions and commands are easy to follow. The viewing angle is fine, although videos have a somewhat narrower viewing angle.

4) Characteristics. The battery life of the Acer AOD150 lasts approximately 61/2-7 hours. The audio card is excellent, it’s as good as my old Macbook Pro, and that’s a fact. The atheros WIFI card got reception in places where my mac wouldn’t.

The HD is extremely fast, copying data quickly, and the 1G RAM is enough to handle netbook-like computing functions. The touchpad has advanced calibration software that will allow you to use all the single-finger scrolling and blink functions without much trouble. Interestingly, there are sensors that detect your hand on the rest panel relative to the touchpad to prevent unwanted input.

In conclusion, as a devoted Mac fanatic, I never thought I would ever find a Windows drive that I could back up. That is, until I discovered the Acer AOD150 netbook!
